Q: What is the Jumeirah Management Trainee Programme all about?

A: The success of Jumeirah is founded on and sustained by our Hallmarks and Guiding Principles. These are about the way we do business and work with each other to continually develop our business, teams and individuals. The Management Trainee Programme is part of our aim to develop future leaders who are able to build on today's success and meet tomorrow's challenges. Management Trainees represent those colleagues who have shown great potential to be our leaders of tomorrow.

The programme is designed for the structured development of high potential current colleagues and external candidates. While the programme provides a framework, it should, where deemed necessary, adjusted and customised to the needs of you, the Trainee and the Business Unit in which your traineeship takes place.

A range of resources are available to you as part of the programme, including successful and competent leaders, managers and colleagues within the organisation who are able to act as guides, mentors and models for developing your leadership competencies. Also available are internal courses and where possible resources such as books, magazines, articles and learning opportunities available thought The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. The programme might also include web-based courses to supplement learning activities and classes.

Q: How do I become a management trainee with Jumeirah?

A: Management Traineeships are suitable for the development of some but not all individuals. It is therefore essential that the selection of candidates meets the need of the organisation and you, the potential trainee.

Internal candidates, colleagues who are already working for Jumeirah are encouraged to apply for the Management Traineeship and should meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated above average performance in their field of expertise
  • Received outstanding performance appraisals

A recommendation should be made by your Director of Human Resources and supported by your General Manager.

As an external candidate you should meet the following criteria:

  • Graduates who have successfully completed a degree or associated degree in Hospitality Management, Human Resources Management, Sales and Marketing Management or Business Management.
  • Are able to effectively communicate in English
  • Preferably speak a second language

Q: What can I do to ensure successful completion of the program?

A: The successful completion of the programme is to a large degree dependent on your ability to be self directed in your learning. This means that you take responsibility for completion of assignment, projects and adhere to the training plan.

Managers, coaches, mentors, Training Manager and the Director of Human Resources take on the role of programme facilitators.

This approach encourages you, the trainee to take ownership of and responsibility for the successful completion of the programme. These traits need to be well established in your anticipated future leadership role.

To facilitate your learning you will be provided with the following at the beginning of the programme:

  • Complete training programme schedule
  • Formal quarterly review dates
  • Email address
  • Contact detail of all people involved in the programme
  • Electronic diary (for day to day program schedules)

Resources that will be made available to you for the development of competence

To support you in the development of management competence, the following resources will generally be made available but might vary from location to location.

  • Access to experienced managers
  • Access to the technical expertise of departmental trainers
  • Access to a mentor / coach, other than their manager
  • Access to Jumeirah training programmes
  • Access to Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management courses (for students located in the United Arab Emirates)
  • Access to web-based learning programmes
  • Access to the Internet
  • Access to MS Outlook (email address) for ease of internal communication
  • Access to learning resources including books, manuals, specialist literature and magazines

Your compensation and benefits

Management Trainees are employed as such and your compensation package includes:

  • A Management Trainee Contract
  • A salary that is comparative to an equivalent status in the location of the traineeship
